Different types of Mattresses

If you already had the chance to look at our mattress catalog and you’re already confused, then you’re not alone. The mattress companies have made purchasing an orthopedic mattress very complicated, a topic you need to learn and understand because of the wide variety of mattress, various materials, and degrees of firmness, all these factors for choosing a mattress makes selecting one very confusing. different types of mattresses contain different materials:

So let’s set some things straight when it comes to the Materials that make up a mattress:

Foam/ Polyurethane:

Many foam types are used in the mattress industry, foam manufacturers paint them in different colors so that they can be distinguished more easily by the density of each foam type. For example, white foam is considered to be a simple absorbent, and relatively cheap mattress with a low density, it is cheaper and is found mainly in simple foam mattresses (children’s mattresses costing between $50 – $ 140 or so). Blue foam is considered to be a better quality foam, more dense, and therefore will last longer throughout the years. Yellow foam SK is the best quality foam for the same reasons.

Clarification: “Polyurethane” is not a special type of foam, it is the professional term for the word foam…

Children’s mattresses:

there are many types of mattresses. It is best to buy children a foam or a spring mattress. The foam should be blue. If you add a top layer of latex and also an Aloe Vera cover, you have the ultimate children’s mattress.
Adult mattress: foam mattresses for adults are called “Orthopedic mattresses without springs” or “Foam mattresses”, an advantage of this type of mattress is that couples won’t feel each other moving while sleeping unlike in spring mattress (continuous coil innerspring), that’s why their sleep will be better in all aspects. Those who like the feel of a spring mattress can purchase an orthopedic mattress with pocket springs.

Advantages:

  • The cost of a child’s foam mattress is cheaper compared to a children’s spring mattress.
  • A sense of stability, couples won’t feel each other move at night. Suitable for everyone.

Disadvantages:

  • For adults, these mattresses are more expensive than innerspring mattresses. Without a combination of latex/memory foam.
  • These types of mattresses are simple mattresses.
  • These mattresses give a sense of a hard firm mattress when you switch from a spring mattress.

Springs mattresses :

Spring mattresses are divided into two main groups: “normal” springs called “Continuous Coil Innerspring” – springs that are connected to one another. pocket springs – springs that aren’t connected to one another. The main advantage of pocket springs is that couples won’t feel each other move during the night.

Advantages:

  • Prices- (spring mattresses are usually cheaper than orthopedic mattresses without springs as well as mattresses with pocket springs).
  • Gives a nice bouncy feeling.
  • Gives complete support if you combine layers of latex/memory foam.
  • Pocket springs will prevent feeling your partner’s movements while sleeping.

Disadvantages:

You feel more movement when you sleep on an innerspring mattress and in addition, the mattress is worn out faster. Mattresses with isolated pocket springs are softer in the definition.

Latex mattresses :

Latex is a natural rubber produced from Rubberwood trees and serves the mattress industry as an extra layer that adds softness to the mattress and that doesn’t create dust mites (it’s not foam) this natural material is very comfortable and gives you a bouncy feeling when you lie down (the bounciness depends on the thickness of the latex layer).

latex mattress”- There’s almost no such thing! There are very few companies that manufacture a mattress made entirely of latex, most of the latex is in the top layer of the mattress only and can be combined also with a spring mattress, a mattress without springs, and a pocket spring mattress.

A latex mattress topper is a thin mattress with a 2 inches thickness and is made entirely out of latex, this kind of mattress is designed to be placed on top of an existing mattress that is too hard.

Advantages of Latex:

Natural anti-allergic and antibacterial material prevents dust mites, comfortable, bouncy, suitable for children’s mattresses, and suitable for most people that don’t know or haven’t tried memory foam.

Disadvantages of latex:

like all rubbers, latex loses its elasticity over the years, as well as it will begin to crumble but it’s a process that takes more than 10 years.

Memory foam :

memory foam mattressMemory foam is an elastic material originally developed for NASA because it “reduces pressure”. Memory foam takes the shape of the body and supports it according to the curves and the position in which you lie. Memory foam becomes soft when it reaches the temperature of 98 degrees Fahrenheit, in other words when it matches our body temperature.

So why doesn’t everyone purchase a memory foam mattress? The secret lies in the thickness. In the case of memory foam, not many people like a thick layer, many people find themselves powerless after purchasing a mattress for an adjustable bed with a thick layer of memory foam( every mattress that contains a memory foam layer of 2.5 inches or more is considered to be particularly thick) and on the first night they found that they were sinking into the mattress, even though lying on the mattress for a short period of time was quite comfortable, especially since the seller recommended it very much…. There was a problem with the feel of the mattress, the problem was that with only a few seconds lying on the mattress, the memory foam didn’t have enough time to warm up and soften as it would during the night.

Conclusion: Those who aren’t familiar with memory foam will most likely take a mattress combined with latex! Memory foam is an excellent material but you need to be familiar with it. If you wanted a memory foam mattress and haven’t really experienced it, take a mattress with a relatively thin layer of memory foam (up to 1.5 inches).

“A Memory foam mattress”- there’s no such thing! There are no mattresses made entirely of memory foam. Memory foam is placed as a top layer to harder lower layers of the mattress. There is such a thing as a memory foam mattress topper- a thin mattress 2 inches that are made entirely of memory foam and are placed on top of an existing mattress that is too hard.

Advantages of memory foam: Assuming that you are attentive to the above rules, memory foam provides perfect orthopedic support, reduces stress, and is recommended for those suffering from pressure ulcers.

Disadvantages of memory foam: Not suitable for everyone, thickness does matter, softens the mattress.

So what are the most important tips for today? Let’s review it again:

  1. It is recommended to purchase a mattress composed of several layers, with the harder layer below giving stability, and the softer layer above.
  2. A mattress made up of one homogeneous material sinks incorrectly (a hammock-like shape) while a mattress made up of several layers of varying degrees of firmness and density will sink in the right places only (shoulders and buttocks) but will still support the rest of the body as well as the lower back.
  3. It is advised that the top layer be made of latex or memory foam.
